Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) Service Leaflet
Experiencing sexual violence can affect people in many different ways. Everyone responds differently, and feelings can change over time. The Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) Service provides long-term emotional and practical support to help people navigate this difficult experience.
This leaflet explains the support available for anyone aged 16 and over in the Bailiwick of Guernsey who has experienced sexual violence, including rape or sexual assault. The service is free, confidential and independent.
You do not need to report the incident to the police to receive support. ISVAs will respect your choices and help you understand the options available so that you can decide what feels right for you.
The leaflet outlines how ISVAs can support you, including:
• Emotional support in a safe and confidential setting
• Regular contact through face-to-face meetings, phone or text
• Practical advice and guidance based on your individual needs
• Referrals to specialist agencies and counselling services
• Support during a police investigation if you choose to report
• Information and updates throughout the criminal justice process
• Support before, during and after court proceedings
ISVAs act as a single point of contact and work to ensure your needs, safety and wellbeing remain at the centre of the support provided. The aim is to help you feel informed, supported and in control of the decisions you make.
