Victim Support and Witness Service Leaflet
Experiencing crime can leave people feeling anxious, confused or overwhelmed. The Bailiwick of Guernsey Victim Support and Witness Service is here to help.
This leaflet explains the support available for victims of crime and for witnesses involved in both criminal and civil proceedings. The service offers a safe and confidential space to talk, alongside practical help and guidance at what can often be a difficult time.
Support is available regardless of when the crime happened and whether it has been reported to the police. The charity operates independently of the police and the criminal justice system, and all services are provided free of charge.
The leaflet outlines the types of support available, including:
• Emotional support from trained staff and volunteers
• Practical guidance and help accessing relevant services
• Information about the criminal justice process
• Support for witnesses before, during and after court hearings
• Pre-trial visits to the court building to help reduce anxiety
• Personal support throughout court proceedings
The service supports people affected by a wide range of crimes, including assault, domestic abuse, fraud, sexual offences, harassment, hate crime, burglary and theft.
If you or someone you know has been affected by crime, or you have been asked to attend court as a witness, this leaflet explains how the service can help.
